Richard J. "Joe" Guidry focuses his practice primarily in the area of maritime law, products liability, automobile accidents and medical malpractice.
The Experience You Need Since June, 2000, Joe has devoted his practice solely to representing persons injured through the negligence of others. From 1988 to May 2000, Joe spent the majority of his practice in the defense of oil companies, drilling contractors, vessel operators, manufacturers, and insurance companies.
During these twelve years, Joe handled and worked on hundreds of maritime cases and acquired valuable knowledge of how companies investigate casualties and evaluate cases. He has investigated numerous offshore casualties, including the investigation of several oilfield-related deaths. Recognized By His Peers Joe has been asked several times to present papers and to make presentations to his colleagues in the various areas in which he practices. In September, 2001, he presented a paper and spoke at the Ninth Annual Admiralty Symposium of the Louisiana State Bar Association (September, 2001) on the topic: Accidents Occurring On and Around Fixed Offshore Platforms: the Interplay Between Federal, State and Maritime Law. In November, 2002, Joe was requested to present a paper and speak at the 2002 Medical Malpractice Seminar of the Louisiana State Bar Association.
Joe has also presented papers and spoken at seminars sponsored by the Louisiana Association for Justice on such topics as bar liability for serving alcohol to underage drinkers and how to deal with a malingering diagnosis in a brain injury case.
Joe is currently admitted to practice in all Louisiana state courts, the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and all Federal District Courts in Louisiana. He is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, American Bar Association, and the Bar Association of the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. He is also a member of the Louisiana Trial Lawyers Association and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America.
About Joe Guidry Joe is a native of Lake Arthur, Louisiana, where he was valedictorian of St. Maria Goretti High School in 1981. He obtained his undergraduate degree in history with honors from Louisiana State University in 1985. While at LSU, he participated in the Honors Program of the College of Arts and Sciences. Joe successfully completed law school at LSU, receiving his Juris Doctorate and license to practice law in 1988.
